Mahbod Shirvani

Biography
Mahbod Shirvani (Tehran 1997) began music study at the age of 10 by learning to play the Persian instrument Tar. He studied under instrumentalists such as Dariush Talai and Dariush Pirniakan. At 15, he started composition and music theory classes. Karen Keyhani and Arshia Samsaminia are his main composition instructors. Ken Ueno, Nina C. Young, Chaya Czernowin, and Don Freund were composers whose masterclasses he attended. He also had private masterclasses with Katharina Rosenberger and Reza Vali. Currently, he holds a Bachelor of Music Performance of the Fine Arts College from Tehran University.

As Composer
Mahbod Shirvani’s piece, The Unconsciousness Hall, for Contrabass and Fixed Media, won the second prize in the 6th RKC (2021). This piece, alongside other selected pieces, was released on a CD titled Phantasma by YMG Records. The contrabass player of this piece was Matthias Bauer.
